Obituary of Reginald Schweitzer Sr.
Reginald J. Schweitzer Sr., passed away on Wednesday April 4th. What can we say about such a wonderful Husband, Papa and Friend to all?

Reg was born on July 14, 1949 in Watertown, NY to Harry and Wilma (Gardner) Schweitzer. He graduated from General Brown High School in 1967 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force. After his return, he married Diane Spencer on April 5, 1969 at Dexter United Methodist Church.

Reg was an innovative, creative and hardworking entrepreneur who wore many hats. Mostly he was a crop farmer and truck driver, but also operated several businesses through the years. From hay brokerage business, shipping hay to the likes of Meadowland’s Horse track and Ringling Brothers Circus, to local storage trailer business- his dedication resulted in great success. He and Diane ran Case Road Farm and Garden for many years, and Reg based his passions around farming and being outdoors. He was a bus driver for Lyme Central School for 19 years where he looked forward to his daily interaction with the children and families on his route.

Reg befriended everyone he met and took great interest in people from all walks of life and everything in it; his family, his friends, his farm, and his community. Very humble and giving, he touched the hearts of so many. He was a mentor to a generation of kids, helping shape them to become better people. He led by example showing that dedication and hard work do pay off, all the while; pulling pranks and joke with people.

Reg had old fashioned values and could be best described as a true “throwback”. He was an avid antique tractor collector who restored many and took great pride in showing them off. He could often be found in his garage puttering and working on many projects. When he wasn’t driving his beloved Mack truck, he preferred bicycles, or horse & buggy over anything modern.

Reg worshipped his children and grandchildren and was happiest when they were huddled around him. He was dedicated to the Chaumont Masonic Lodge #172 and was a life member of the Stone Mills Agricultural Society.

Reg is survived by his wife Diane; his three children Daidre (Bryan) Fanis of Charlotte, NC, Terra (Chris) Parillo of Fort Mill, SC and Reginald (Hartley) Schweitzer Jr. of Chaumont, NY; his six grandchildren Kyle, Nicholas, Brady, Riley, Audrey, and Jane. Also surviving are his siblings’ Ron (Judy), Wayne, Sharon (Dalon) and Steve. He is predeceased by his parents Harry and Wilma Schweitzer and brother Craig.

A Memorial Gathering and calling hours will be Saturday April 14th from 1:00- 4:00 pm with a Masonic Ceremony at 1:00 pm at the Chaumont Masonic Hall Rte 12E in Chaumont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lyme Central School to benefit the Greenhouse Project PO Box 219, Chaumont, NY 13622 or Dexter United Methodist Church 210 W. Kirby St. Dexter, NY 13634.
